TV says “No Signal”? Try these 5 checks
Five quick things to check when a VCR or retro console will not display a picture on a modern TV.
Choose the correct input
Press INPUT or SOURCE on your TV remote and select the socket in use, such as HDMI 2.
Check converter power
Most active analog-to-HDMI boxes need USB or wall power. Check their power LED.
Check OUT vs IN
Old device cables come from VIDEO OUT. They connect to converter INPUT. The converter HDMI OUTPUT goes to your TV INPUT.
Check the converter type
Composite-to-HDMI is not the same as HDMI-to-composite. S-Video and component video require compatible inputs.
Play a known-good source
Try a different tape, disc, or game and reseat the connectors. For RF hookups, the TV must support the correct analog channel.
A blank display can come from an incompatible video standard, a failing tape/device, or a converter that does not support the signal. Avoid buying a second adapter blindly.
