Connect S-Video to an HDMI TV
A clear S-Video-to-HDMI connection guide, including the separate audio leads people often overlook.
Identify S-VIDEO OUT
Look for the round 4-pin socket on your VCR, DVD player, or other device. Do not force the delicate connector.
Choose an S-Video-to-HDMI converter
Check that the converter has S-VIDEO IN and HDMI OUT and supports your device’s output standard.
Add audio separately
S-Video carries picture only. Connect separate audio outputs, often white/red RCA, to the converter audio inputs if supported, or to separate speakers.
Connect, power, and select HDMI
Connect converter HDMI OUT to the TV, power the converter as required, then choose the correct HDMI input.
Many converters with only composite yellow VIDEO IN cannot accept S-Video. A passive S-Video-to-HDMI cable is not a true signal converter.
